I have family and friends in the United States and was devastated to learn that I could not enter the United States because of my criminal record while on my way to New York for a funeral. I looked up how to become eligible and was devastated to learn that it was not an immediate process. I called Julie desperate and depressed.
Julie explained to me that there was still hope for me to get to the funeral and told me about an advance parole that I had never heard of. She walked me through my options and helped me request temporary permission to enter the United States despite my ineligibility. She also helped me get started on a US Entry Waiver to ensure that I would not find myself in the same situation down the road.
Thanks to Julie I was able to attend the funeral. Not only that, but I had started the process of applying for a US Entry Waiver so that I would not be shut out from visiting my friends and family and missing out on future funerals, weddings, or other important get-togethers.
During a night out with friends many years ago, a misunderstanding and case of mistaken identity resulted in very serious charges of sexual assault. As a father of two with no prior trouble with the law, these charges threatened to have an extremely negative impact on my ability to be fully involved in my children’s lives. I would not be allowed to volunteer during any school activities or field trips and I would have to give up coaching as I would be unable to pass a criminal record check.
First and foremost Julie helped me by putting my mind at ease and letting me know that I wasn’t in this alone and that there was something I could do about it. I had assumed that I would have to live with this forever due to the nature of my charges but she explained the exceptions I could satisfy that would allow me to seal my record. The entire process was explained thoroughly to me and Julie and her team took care of preparing all of the legal documents for me. I was given specific instruction on where and how to get my fingerprints done and advised of the anticipated wait times for each of the documents that needed to come in. I was coached on what supporting documentation I could include that would strengthen my case. Once my application was ready to submit, Julie reviewed it in depth with me to make sure I understood what had been included and that everything was accurate. The application was submitted by CPUSW on my behalf.
To my relief, I was granted a Record Suspension and was able to put these charges behind me. Any background checks that are run against me now will not disclose my criminal record. The peace of mind I know have is priceless. As a mother herself, Julie empathized with my concerns that I would not be able to be as involved as I wanted to in my children’s lives and I can’t thank her enough for making sure my worst nightmare did not become my reality. I can now put this embarrassing situation behind me and carry on with my life confidently. A heartfelt thank you goes to Julie for her tremendous support.
I was pissed off. All of my life I had travelled back and forth between the United States and Canada without issue until one day when my wife and I were about to fly to Vegas but I was denied boarding at the airport and told that I was ineligible and that I could withdraw my application to enter the United States. I was shocked and couldn’t even remember the charge because it was from so many years ago. The reason I could not enter the United States was a 30 year old drug charge for possession of a marijuana joint.
I couldn’t even remember the charge never mind prepare an application about it requesting permission to enter the United States. I had no idea what to do. Julie took the time to explain to me why this was happening and what I could do about it. She sent me for fingerprints so that I could see what exactly the issue was. She contacted the authorities to obtain the legal documentation to support my application. Seeing as I am retired now from a life of public service, she suggested several items to include with my application to strengthen my case.
Despite being blindsided by my ineligibility and not realizing why, in the end I was able to understand what was happening and why and I felt more knowledgeable. I was able to share this information with others to ensure they didn’t find themselves in the same situation. I received my US Entry Waiver and can resume travelling, worry free.
I came to Julie and CPUSW desperate and confused. I had received a Record Suspension which had been extremely helpful in obtaining employment but when I went to the border to try and cross, I was denied entry. I had thought that all my troubles were behind me now that I had a Record Suspension. It is extremely important for me to be able to travel to the United States as my employer is an American company and as such, their leadership and training courses are held in their American offices. In order to advance in the company, it is important that I am able to attend these courses.
Julie explained to me the difference between a US Entry Waiver and a Record Suspension and helped me understand how each one would benefit my life. I was concerned that the United States would not grant me an Entry Waiver due to the fact that one of my charges was for accessory after the fact to murder. However, Julie comforted me and explained that the most important element of my application was how I showed remorse and reformation. Julie asked me lots of questions to fully understand what had happened and what I had done since and she put together a very in depth application package which focused on all of the positive attributes I have to offer. She ordered all of the appropriate documentation for me and included items I never would have thought of adding.
I was granted a US Entry Waiver and was able to travel freely into the United States not only for my business meetings and training sessions, but for vacation with my family. I am working towards a promotion at work which would not have been possible if I were unable to enter the United States. I came to Julie feeling very confused and desperate as I had worked extremely hard to improve my life but I was stuck and didn’t know what to do. I have Julie to thank for giving me the confidence that I could overcome this and that I would be able to continue to put the past behind me.
I had travelled back and forth between Canada and the United States without issue but one day I was attempting to fly out of Canada with a connecting flight in the United States and I was not allowed to board the flight because I had overstayed my visitor’s visa in the United States. I was told that because of this, I was ineligible to enter the United States and I also could not take any flights that had stopovers or connecting flights in the United States. This was the worst possible news as my parents are elderly and cannot travel and they live in the United States.
Julie helped me to understand why I could not enter the United States. She gave me my options of what I could do about it. She answered all of my questions and did all of the legwork for me. I only had to go for my fingerprints. Everything else was done for me and I came back to meet with Julie to sign where indicated and pick up my package to apply for a US Entry Waiver. She walked me through the application process and gave me tips to make sure it was a painless process.
I can thank Julie for reuniting me with my parents and making sure I didn’t have to spend the holidays without them. I received my US Entry Waiver and could now travel without hesitation.
